While ART is instrumental in helping intended parents overcome infertility, it can also present health risks and occasional pregnancy complications, such as multiple births. Because of these risks, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) monitors ART procedures that have been performed in the U.S.

All ART cycles performed in the US should be reported to the CDC, however, not every clinic does this. Unfortunately, some less-than-reputable clinics only present favorable results, instead of submitting all the necessary information. This clinic behavior also causes the CDC to do yearly audits and site visits for clinics that offer ART cycles.
